Spring Football Season is Underway

Spring football season is well underway in the New York metro region, at all levels of play.


The New Jersey Generals of the professional United States Football League (USFL) are hosting league games in MetLife stadium and have a 2-2 record so far this season putting them atop all USFL teams in the North, including the Michigan Panthers, Pittsburgh Maulers, and Philadelphia Stars.

Among the semipro National Public Safety Football League’s (NPSFL) 19 teams across the country, four are located in the NY Metro area including the TriState Shields Football Team, NYPD Finest Football Team, FDNY Bravest Football Team and NYCD Boldest Football Team. Having just completed the 3rd week of their intraleague season, the FDNY Bravest stand undefeated, 3-0, the best record among NPSFL’s NY Metro area teams.

Teams of the semipro Triboro Football League are well underway with seven teams located in the NY Metro Area, the Long Island Eagles, New York Greenwave, New York Ducks, Mt. Vernon Bangers, Empire State Wolfpack, Brooklyn Bengals, and the New York Dolphins. Presently, the Long Island Eagles stand on top of the league with a record of 5 wins against no losses.

On the women’s side, the full-contact Women’s Football Alliance full-contact tackle league started its season on April 22nd. Among the League’s teams playing in the New York Metro region are the TriState Warriors, New York Wolves, Connecticut Hawks, and Northern Connecticut Nightmare.

And, at the youth level, the NFL Flag football program is underway with its Spring schedule with Mad Dog Flag Football’s 12 teams competing in their Friday Night Lights games on the newly redone field at Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford.
