The New York Metro area summer streeball season is upon us and, on Thursday evening the Ferris World Ball 2025 tournament season began with a tip-off of its 42nd season at its home court at Gardella Park on Ferris Avenue in White Plains, NY.

The 2025 tournament season which runs from June through early August includes 12 adult teams and 10 high school teams. There is also a youth division for those 14 and younger operated under the City of White Plains Parks and Recreation Department.

The evening’s two games were preceded by a memorial ceremony for the late Kevin “Higgszy” Higgs, who co-directed the Ferris World tournament for several years alongside Gerard “Oopie” Seward, who took over administration of Ferris World from its founder, Jerome “Bump” Robinson.

Ferris World’s opening night, originally scheduled for June 8th, was delayed until June 12th because of weather. Perhaps this was an omen of recognition for one of Ferris World’s most noted alumni, White Plains High School graduate and former NBA player with the Brooklyn Nets, Sean Kilpatrick for whom June 12th had previously been recognized by the County of Westchester as Sean Kilpatrick Day back in 2018.

In the opening game of the night, a tightly fought contest, last year’s Ferris World Tournament Champions, ‘Gun Hill’ were defeated 62-59 in the closing seconds of the game by ‘Get Money’.  Perhaps the play of Get Money was elevated by a special player who came to support Ferris World and suited up for the Get Money team. The international sensation, Hansel Enmanuel, a one-armed competitive ball player showed his skills on the court and helped the team effort.

In the second game of the evening ‘The Pound’ took the win over ‘SMLA’ by a final score of 71-56
