NYU Moves on to the 2024 National Championships

Will an N.Y.U. Athletic team be cutting down the net this year?

It is tradition in NCAA basketball for the winner of the annual National Championship to cut down the net of the basket. The NYU Women’s Basketball team which currently holds an undefeated record of 27-0 this year is headed to the NCAA Division 3 Sweet 16 with hopes of reaching the finals and securing an NCAA D-III Championship. The National Sweet 16 will be held in NYC this coming weekend, March 8th and 9th, hosted by NYU with the winner heading on to the Final Four and possibly the National Championship.

While the outcome of that championship effort in Women’s Basketball is still undecided, one NYU Women’s athletic team has already qualified for the National Finals with a win this past weekend claiming first place Championship honors in the Northeast Regional competition. The NYU Women’s Table Tennis Team which competes in the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association (NCTTA), along with the NYU Coed Table Tennis team, captured stunning victories in the March 2nd and 3rd NCTTA Northeast Regional Tournament held at the Westchester Table Tennis Center in Pleasantville, NY.

In addition to the Team Championships, NYU’s Table Tennis athletes claimed the first four positions in both the Men’s and Women’s individual competitions. To do so, the Violets had to defeat competitors from NYC neighbor Columbia University and other northeast regional competitors from Princeton, Rutgers, N.J.I.T., SUNY Stony Brook, UConn, Yale, Dartmouth, Harvard, UMass Amherst, M.I.T., Boston University and the University of Vermont.

Women's Singles 1st Place Champion - Yuyao Lu, N.Y.U.

Women's Singles 2nd Place Champion - Alocasia Chen, N.Y.U.

Men's Singles 1st Place Champion - Steven Garanturov, N.Y.U.

Men's Singles 2nd Place Champion - Ruilin Zhou N.Y.U.
